La Crosse Fire Department hands out Christmas gifts to hospitalized children

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Being hospitalized over the holidays can be difficult.

Some special visitors helped kids in La Crosse get into the holiday spirit.

Members of the the La Crosse Fire Department stopped by Mayo Clinic Health System to deliver Christmas gifts to hospitalized children.

Firefighters gave the kids blankets, stuffed animals and fire department helmets.

Even though COVID-19 is a concern right now, it didn’t stop firefighters from helping out.

“We’re trying to keep morale up, and we don’t want people being discouraged with the virus and all that,” engineer Troy Glasel said. “So, it’s important to keep status quo and keep pushing forward even with the challenges like COVID.”

The gifts are bought by the La Crosse Area Professional Firefighters, which also includes members from Onalaska, Holmen and Tomah.
