La Crosse Fire Department and Green Bay Packers hold ‘Fill the Helmet’ campaign

Money raised will go to child identification kits

La Crosse’s fire department is teaming up with the Green Bay Packers to help keep kids safe.

The department is joining more than 4,000 firefighters across the state for the “Fill The Helmet” campaign.

The campaign raises money to give child identification kits to every student in Wisconsin.

The kits includes an ink-less fingerprint, a DNA swab, and an identification card.

With a child going missing every 40 seconds in the United States firefighters say these kits could potentially be life-saving for families.

“In the case of someone goes missing or runs away they can turn that over to police and enter it into the database. So if something shows up anywhere in the country, they will at least know this connects to this child,” says President of the La Crosse International Firefighters Lance Tryggestad.

The hope to raise about one million dollars for the campaign.
