La Crosse elementary students learn about vermicomposting with worms and garbage
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Some of La Crosse’s youngest learners are getting their hands dirty with some worms and garbage!
GROW La Crosse brought vermicomposting to State Road Elementary Thursday afternoon. Students read a book and got a hands-on lesson on how worms turn food waste into fertilizer.
“We started off by making sure we understood what can be composted versus what needs to go in the recycling or what does need to be sent to the landfill. We’ve identified those things. I told them last week we were going to be getting a visit from the worms and they have been so thrilled and excited!” said GROW La Crosse Farm2School Educator Caroline Kerr.
GROW La Crosse has also visited Hamilton and Hintgen elementaries for their own vermicomposting lessons.
