La Crosse elementary students help Afghan kids at Fort McCoy during donation drive
The Salvation Army of La Crosse County also is collecting donations of money to help
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – About 1,800 of the Afghan refugees staying at Fort McCoy are children.
Students and staff at La Crosse’s Northside Elementary are helping make their time on base more comfortable. On Friday, they collected clothing, blankets and toys.
The students making donations get much more in return, said Nicki Pope, principal of Northside Elementary/Coulee Montessori.
“I think it’s important for our children to have an opportunity to give back. And to see what the impact they can have,” Pope said.
If you missed the drive, you can still help.
The Salvation Army of La Crosse County is collecting donations of money, which it will use to purchase needed items.
