La Crosse County video asks college students to prevent COVID-19 spread
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse County Health Department releases video urging college students to stay in this weekend and do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The video includes Health Director Jen Rombalski, Dr. Elizabeth Cogbill of Gundersen Health System and Dr. Joseph Poterucha of Mayo Clinic Health System, who got together to to send a message to students that “We stand together for your health.”
“To the college students and the youth of our community, you have an immense amount of power right now to impact everyone around you,” Cogbill said.
The health officials were joined by UW-La Crosse Student Association President Cate Wiza, as well as Maya Roberts and Tommy Krob of Viterbo University.
“We’ve got a big responsibility this weekend to help stop the spread of COVID,” said Roberts, noting that La Crosse has one of the fastest increasing case rates in the country. “We can change that though by wearing our masks and doing our best to stay six feet apart.”
Poterucha asked students to be good stewards of their community.
“It says a lot about you as a person, it says a lot about your interests, it says a lot about who we are as young people in La Crosse,” said Poterucha. “We can step it up. We can do this.”
