La Crosse County Highway Department preps ahead of winter snow

The snowy forecast has the La Crosse County Highway Department preparing for winter weather.

Crews began performing maintenance on snow plows Sunday.

Staff may have to work for as much as 16 hours per shift to keep roads as clean as possible.

County highway staff say they know the job isn’t just about making sure people can get to work.

“You can let things go, simply because of the fact that if an emergency vehicle has to get somewhere, they have to have a road that they can get to the emergency because it is going to save lives,” said Leif Nelson, La Crosse County Highway Department Patrol Superintendent.

Drivers are encouraged to learn about road conditions before getting behind the wheel.
