La Crosse County Health Department finds success in contact tracing

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – While many counties in our region are behind on contact tracing, the La Crosse County Health Department has been working hard to call as many potentially exposed people as possible.
According to health officials, some people are hesitant to give information to the department, but they say that information can make a huge difference when it comes to alerting people of a potential exposure.
Despite the hesitation and recent spike in case numbers, the department’s efforts to contact trace have not been completely hindered.

“In the last week, between the 9th and the 15th, we were able to reach 73% of our cases, and we reached just under 60% of high risk close contacts that we knew about,” said Jacquie Cutts, of the La Crosse Health Department.

Cutts says it’s important to know that they are not calling every close contact, and they’re prioritizing based on age and vulnerability to the virus.
