La Crosse County has a new body scanner to prevent drugs, weapons from entering jail

The La Crosse County jail is a little more secure thanks to a new full body scanner.

The $118,000 system will help prevent contraband like drugs and weapons from entering the jail. The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department included that money in its 2019 budget, planning to purchase the scanner next year, but the County Board decided to move that schedule forward after seeing a need to keep everyone safe.

“If we have a death or somebody potentially dies because of drugs in a jail or contraband in a jail it’s not good. We’re trying to minimize our liability to do everything we can to save somebody’s life,” said Sheriff Jeff Wolf.

The system is already being used at the County jail.
