La Crosse County ammunition collection
The event limited acceptable ammunition to factory rounds of 50 caliber or 8 gauge and less
LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – La Crosse County Solid Waste Department held an unwanted ammunition drop off earlier today.
The event was open from 8 a.m. to noon at the La Crosse Couty Solid Waste Facility.
The first five pounds were free and the charge was $5 per pound afterward.
It was open to La Crosse County residents, and business waste was not accepted.
The event limited acceptable ammunition to factory rounds of 50 caliber or 8 gauge and less.
Safe disposal of dangerous items is important, and there are many people who simply don’t know how to properly dispose of ammunition.
“Our most frequent request for ammunition disposal comes from people that find it, or are left behind by loved ones, and maybe it’s been sitting around for decades and they just don’t know what to do with it. We’re able to collect it and manage it for proper disposal, and solve a problem for our constituents as well,” said Scott Szymanski, the Operations Manager at the La Crosse County Solid Waste Facility.
This was the first time this service was offered.
