La Crosse committee approves $230,000 in grants for non-profits

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Non-profits in La Crosse that support families in need are getting another boost.

$230,000 in grants were approved by the City of La Crosse Community Development Committee. That money is on top of $625,251 already approved for neighborhood revitalization projects.

The funds are from the Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment program.

Non-profits receiving grant money include WAFER Food Pantry, the Boys and Girls Club, and for the first time, the city is partnering with the Marine Credit Union Foundation to address minority homeownership, among other projects and organizations.

The applications received by the Committee from non-profits all addressed key aspects of supporting low-income families during the pandemic.

The Common Council is expected to provide final approval of the Committee’s recommendations and award amounts in February.
