La Crosse city council approves Korean War Veterans Memorial

La Crosse will soon be home to a new memorial honoring those that served our country in the Korean War.

The city council approved the new memorial city Thursday night. It will be located at Veterans Freedom Park on the city’s Northside.

More than $18,000 in donations has already been raised for the project.

The city says it will match that amount and hopes to use the match money to revitalize the area surrounding the new memorial.

“A lot of the memorial is the beautification of the area so planting some more trees, putting in some nice benches really creating a decorative walk,” says superintendent of La Crosse parks, Jay Odegaard.

Construction will start in the spring.

The city hopes to have a grand opening for the memorial in June.
