La Crosse Center board members gathering input on potential contract management

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The La Crosse Center board is expecting a lengthy process on potentially privatizing the center.

Center director Art Fahey says in the 30 years he’s been in the role, this is the “deepest dive” he’s seen into considering contract management for the center.

He says the board is still in the process of talking with hotel groups, caterers, business leaders and Center staff about the potential to privatize.

He says it’s a decision not to take lightly–and one that naturally takes time.

“It’s been run we think as well for a long long time,” Fahey said. “If this is a move we make, you have to understand the things that are going to be associated with it–with a contract company coming in and running the building, versus having local city employees running it.”

The city has run the building locally for 40 years. Board members expect a lot of community input. Contract management Supporters say it would provide greater resources.
