La Crosse Public Works Board approves UWL request to move taxpayer responsibility from section of road near campus
Changes allows UWL to work with La Crosse Fire Department on planned station
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A request from UW-La Crosse would remove taxpayer responsibility from a section of road near campus.
University officials want to close and vacate 14th Street North from Badger Street to Farwell Street to remove driveways, install new curb and gutter and repave the street.
This would give them more parking spaces and would allow for future development of the area.
It also allows UWL to work with the La Crosse Fire Department as they plan for a new, nearby fire station.
“We’re hoping to have kind of initial footprint plans over to UWL at some point,” said Fire Chief Ken Gilliam. “We’ve been working on assessment of the property lines. What land swapping we essentially need to do to make the site make sense as well as that street access as well as that shooting elevations. There’s a lot of work in progress right now.”
La Crosse’s Public Works Board approved the request unanimously.
