La Crosse area veterans to take Freedom Honor Flight Saturday, May 2
Public invited to attend send-off, welcome home ceremonies
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — About 80 military veterans will take the Freedom Honor Flight on Saturday, May 2 to visit the war memorials in Washington, D.C.
The honorees on the Freedom Honor Flight include 28 World War II veterans, 51 Korean War veterans and one Vietnam War veteran. The Vietnam War veteran is participating through the TLC program, which grants terminally ill veterans priority status.
The public is welcome to attend the send-off and welcome home ceremonies Saturday. The flight departs from La Crosse at 7 a.m. after a brief send-off program at the Colgan Air Hanger 4.
The flight will return at about 10 p.m. Saturday. The doors at Colgan Air Hanger 4 open at 9 p.m. The welcome home ceremony features a color guard, patriotic music played by the Onalaska High School Marching band, and streamed images of the day’s events in Washington, D.C.
