La Crosse area Interact Clubs raise $6,400 for local food pantries
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Local high schoolers are helping fill the shelves of our local food pantries.
Seven high school Interact Clubs in our area, including Central, Logan, Aquinas, Onalaska, Holmen, West Salem, and Caledonia, held drive-thru raffles at the end of October, raising $6,400 dollars to feed the hungry.
The money is being donated to the Hunger Task Force, Holmen’s Hope, St. Elizabeth’s Food Pantry, and the Caledonia Food Shelf.
Although these high schools are rivals in sports and competitions, club members said Monday it was good to be on the same team for this cause.
“It was absolutely astounding that we raised that much money and I’m super thankful that as a community and as high schoolers we could actually come together. No matter the school, we came together and that’s what really mattered to us,” said Isaac Killilea, Onalaska High School’s Rotary Interact Vice-President.
The drive-thru raffle replaced the Interact Club’s annual iFeed event, which was cancelled this year due to the pandemic.
