LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The YMCA School Age Care Program has partnered with local school districts to offer temporary “School Day” care during September while schools operate virtually.

To limit the spread of COVID-19, the program capacities will be significantly less than those of regular school operations.

This is a licensed childcare program that will include a supportive virtual learning environment in the middle of the day and a school-age care environment before and after. District Staff, along with the support of Y staff, will be onsite the entire school day portion to support a structured model of virtual learning. Youth will be broken down into small groups to support their specific academic grades, according to a news release.

Meals will be provided by the YMCA and the school districts to youth enrolled in the program.

Due to the generosity and partnership of the School Districts and the Y, there is no cost associated with the “School Day” Care portion of the day from September 1st to October 2nd. This portion will operate from approximately 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. The Y School Age Care Program will continue to offer their regular year-round programming from 6:30 am – 8:00 am and then again after the “School Day” portion from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

It is a temporary solution to local families enrolled at Holmen, La Crosse and Onalaska school districts for in-person schooling.
