La Crescent Fire Dept. quickly puts out garage fire

Fire crews in La Crescent work quickly to put out a fire as temperatures drop below zero on the first night of 2018.

The La Crescent Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire on south Elm Street just before 5 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters could see smoke spilling into the alley when they got on scene and were able to put out the fire within a few minutes.

“When it’s this cold, it’s a little bit of a challenge making sure everything is running and flowing smoothly, but we got it knocked down and under control pretty quickly,” said La Crescent Fire Chief Tom Paulson.

Due to what was being kept inside the garage, crews spent extra time at the scene making sure the fire was completely out.

Nobody was hurt in the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
