Knights of Columbus free throw competition held at Aquinas High School

Kids in our area got a chance to compete in a national tournament Saturday.

The Knights of Columbus hosted one of more than 3,000 free throw competitions for kids ages 9 to 14 at Aquinas High School. The winners of each age group advanced to the district competition. This event has been held all around the country since 1972.

Organizers at the Knights of Columbus say that this event is about more than just shooting free throws.

“Through sports the youth learn great virtues like sportsmanship that carry them through life so we wanted to host this for our youth today and make it a community event that all can enjoy,” said Nicholas Althoff of the Knights of Columbus.

Last year the competition had 120,000 competitors nationally.
