Kind accepting applications to U.S. service academies
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKBT) — High school students who will graduate next year and want to join a few good men — and women, of course — in the country’s service academies can submit applications to the office of U.S. Rep Ron Kind, D-La Crosse.
A congressional nomination is required to attend these academies:
• U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
• U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.
• U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.
• U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.
The application process, which is very competitive and just opened, has a deadline of Oct. 16. It is open to any U.S. citizen who will be a high school graduate. Applicants usually are high school students entering their senior year.
“I’m always impressed by the dedicated young men and women interested in attending our nation’s service academies,” Kind said. “Each year, I’m honored to be able to nominate outstanding students from Wisconsin to become our country’s future military leaders.”
Applicants can obtain forms and information from Mark Aumann in Kind’s Eau Claire office at 715-831-9214 or Mark.Aumann@mail.house.gov.
More information on the nomination process is on Kind’s website.
