Kane Street Community Garden being prepared for planting season
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Tuesday may be a cold start to spring, but leaders of a local community garden are preparing for warmer weather.
Leaders at the Kane Street Community Garden are spreading compost ahead of next month’s planting season. The Garden benefits the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse and community members looking for a place to grow their own produce.
Garden managers say the cold days before the planting season are a great time to prepare the garden soil.
“We really, the next week or two, three, it’s a great time to put a little layer of compost over the whole garden. That will feed the soil. This is organic gardening and you really want to take care of your soil,” said Kane Street Community garden Coordinator Todd Huffman.
