Juneau, Sauk County discuss attempted abduction, assault cases

Sheriff releases description of man who attempted abduction

A teenager was able to evade an abduction attempt in West Baraboo, and deputies are checking to see if the incident is connected to a case in Juneau County.

Deputies were called to the Haskin Park area in West Baraboo at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an abduction attempt.

The 18-year-old victim told deputies a man asked him for directions to Walmart. As the victim was giving directions he pointed in the direction of Walmart and the man grabbed his arm and attempted to force him into his midsize silver SUV.

Oleson said images of a vehicle released in relation to the sexual assault case are not of the suspect vehicle, but it’s similar to the SUV in the images.

The teenager was able to break away from the man and run home. The man is described as white, about 6 feet tall, stocky with short hair and a deep voice.

Juneau County Sheriff Brent Oleson said they’re working with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department about potential similarities to a sexual assault that happened on September 24.

Authorities say a 17-year-old girl was jogging on Koval Road between 65th Street and County Highway N when a man stopped and asked if she needed a ride. She told him she didn’t but he got out of his vehicle, grabbed her and forced her into the back seat of his car, according to the police report.

The man is described as a white male between the age of 30-50 years-old about 5’10” to 6′ and weighs about 180-200. The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office said the man told the victim not to scream or run or he would hurt her.

He then got back into his car, drove toward Lyndon Station to an unknown wooded location. The victim told police he then got into the back seat of the vehicle and sexually assaulted her. The suspect then drove the victim back to where he picked up her on Koval Road and let her out.

Another incident was reported to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office in early September on Highway 33 east of Manmound Road. The alleged victim refused to cooperate with law enforcement.

Oleson is encouraging parents to talk to their children about being aware of their surroundings.
