Jeff Brieske to begin second stint as Tomah boys basketball head coach
Former Tomah boys basketball head coach Jeff Brieske is taking up the position once again.
Brieske was the head coach for five seasons until he stepped down in 2008, but he’s a natural fit to succeed Brad Plueger, who is now the school’s AD. That’s because Brieske has been one of Plueger’s assistant coach for the last eight years.
“It’s not that idea where I have to throw out all these things to put my stamp on it,” Brieske said. “We’re going to hang onto the things that worked and try to add some things that will make us a little better.”
With 12 years separating his head coaching stints, Brieske said he’s got a new perspective on approaching the position, as he’s now learned how best to lead and interact with young players.
“We’ve had some better athletes here the last few years, so Brad [Plueger] and I will tell you that our ability to just let kids be kids and use their natural talents, and sometimes step away and let the kids do what they’re good at. I’m probably much better at that than I used to be,” Brieske said.
Tomah finished third in the MVC this past season and return most of their core for next season.
