‘Jason Simcakoski Memorial Golf Course’ coming to Tomah VA
TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT) — A recreational opportunity will soon be available for Veterans receiving medical care in our area.
Groundbreaking was held for the golf course at the Tomah VA Medical Center.
The course was last open in 2014.
The Jason Simcakoski Foundation, City of Tomah and Disable American Veterans organization are contributing to the project.
Simcakoski became the face of the opioid over-prescribing scandal at the VA after he died in 2014 as a result of an overdose.
Jason’s father, Marvin Simcakoski, says he knows his son would’ve loved the course and knows it will help veterans in the future.
“It gave me a chance to get him outside, to get him doing something, to get him enjoying the sunlight and fresh air instead of sitting inside and you know what, that therapy helped him, it really did. It was a good thing for him and it’s going to be a good thing for everybody in the future,”said Marvin Simcakoski, father of Jason Simcakoski.
The course will be named the Jason Simcakoski Memorial Golf Course in Jason’s honor.
