Jackson County Animal Shelter project continues, set for completion in Spring

Construction continues on a new animal shelter building in Jackson County.  Crews began working on the more than $1 million project in the fall.

The current building has needed many repairs and the shelter has outgrown its space. It originally started with one room for cats, but later expanded to include space for dogs.

The new building will be located behind the Veterans Park, across the street from the Health and Human Services building in Black River Falls. Staff say it was important to be located near area schools, as they have a good connection with students who help volunteer and learn from their work.

A number of community members, organizations and the county have stepped up to help provide funding for the new building. The county-run shelter which is supported by the Humane Society is still accepting donations for the project.

Construction is expected to be completed by the beginning of May.
