Iowa Power Fund awards $2.1M for biofuel projects
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Power Fund Board has approved more than $2.1 million to expand biofuel production and create jobs.
The board approved a $1.5 million to Growth Design Energy Mt. Valley LLC to build a refinery near Forest City that will use non-food waste oils as feedstock. The plant would produce three million gallons of biodiesel a year.
The Power Fund Board also approved nearly $700,000 in grant to assist the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Services to expand existing Green Corps and AmeriCorps programs to support the training of Iowa veterans to implement energy efficiency improvement programs to the homes of the low-income, elderly and veterans.
The awards were announced Wednesday.
