International Owl Center in Houston County gets design submission from around the world for new facility

No timeline has been set to start construction on the new facilty

HOUSTON, Minn. (WKBT) – The International Owl Center is spreading its wings, planning for a new facility.

The Center recently completed a Design Concept Contest to help draw ideas.

Entries came from around the world.

The winning design came from Pennsylvania.

The center’s executive director says project will give the popular destination a new place to perch.

“We want to have these large walk through aviaries that have to have roofs that will allow the rain to come through. Sunshine so owls can either choose to sit in the weather or a sheltered area. But they also have to be screened against mosquitoes, so we don’t get west nile in our birds and things like that,” said International Owl Center Karla Bloem.

The designs are available here.
