Authorities searching pond near Halderson home as investigation continues

WINDSOR, Wis. — The Dane County Sheriff’s office says it is searching a pond near the home of a missing couple in Windsor as the investigation into what happened to Bart and Krista Halderson continues.

The sheriff’s office tweeted an update Thursday morning, saying they were searching a pond along with officials from the Wisconsin DNR and the Madison Police Department.

The search comes as authorities are still investigating the murder of Bart Halderson and the disappearance of Krista Halderson. The couple’s son, Chandler, is currently being held in the Dane County Jail on a $1 million bond for the murder and mutilation of his father’s body. Parts of Bart Halderson’s body were found earlier this month near Cottage Grove before the medical examiner confirmed it was him.

More human remains were later found near DNR land along the Wisconsin River in the Town of Roxbury, but they have not yet been identified.

Authorities have continued an extensive search of the couples’ home since they were first reported missing at the start of July. Another search is also ongoing at the Waste Management landfill in Johnson Creek.

The sheriff’s office says it will work to drain the pond to a depth of 5 feet while they search that area.

“We want to continually remind the public to reach out to our investigators if they have any information that could be helpful to this investigation,” Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said in a statement.
