Hwy 61 Intersection Safety Project set for 2020
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — The public got a first-hand look at the new intersection safety project in Winona on Thursday.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Highway 61 will undergo a new project starting in 2020.
The intersection between Highway 61 and Sugar Loaf View, across from the Fleet Farm in Winona, will be modified to reduce crashes.
“We’ve had a big crash history over there the last 5+ years,” said Project Manager, Chad Hanson. “I know that just within those 5 years we’ve had 28 crashes, and 17 of them have involved injuries. It’s something we really want to address as soon as possible.”
During a public input session on Thursday, people could ask the MnDOT questions and find information about the project before it begins next year.
Construction could start as early as the first week of May 2020. The project should only take about one month to complete.
