Hundreds Run to the Runway, Walk to Waffles

5K raises money for Habitat for Humanity

Walking, waffles and an air show were all part of one big event in La Crosse on Sunday.

It started with the Run to the Runway, Walk to the Waffles Family Fun 5K. The walk raises money for Habitat for Humanity of La Crosse.

Organizers say the money will be used to help build more homes in our community.

It’s the first year the walk is being paired up with the Flying Waffles breakfast. Heather Suby, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, says the events complement each other well.

“I don’t know many run-walks where you get to go pig out on waffles afterwards, so I think that the combination of the walking gets your appetite going and then get over there and have some waffles,” said Suby.

Organizers of the Flying Waffles breakfast estimate more than 750 people showed up for this year’s breakfast at the La Crosse airport.

La Crosse Flyers member Dave Hogan says the breakfast is a good way to involve the community.

“It’s good because we serve the aviation community, and the general public gets a chance to get close to the airplanes and enjoy,” said Hogan.

Sunday was the 5th year for the breakfast.
