Hundreds participate in 12th annual Walk for a Cure
Each year, the amount of people diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes increases by 20 percent.
Sunday, more than 500 people took part in raising more money to hopefully find a cure.
The 12th annual Walk for a Cure not only supports research, but gives families a chance to meet others living with the disease.
Often times, people confuse the disease with Type 2 diabetes, but many walkers live with the difference every day.
“Nothing you can do will make a difference in you having Type 1,” said Lori Ascher, chair for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. “You cannot change your diet, exercise or have any weight loss reduction surgery. That’s not going to make Type 1 diabetes go away. It’s something you’ll have for a lifetime and you will depend on insulin to keep you alive.”
Organizers said they hope to raise $60,000.
