Houston’s historic season ends in State quarterfinals

Houston girls basketball’s historic season came to an end in the Class A State Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday, as top-ranked Class A squad Minneota defeated Houston 67-34 at Mankato East High School.

Houston led the game 5-4 early but Minneota then went on a huge run to lead 43-15 at halftime. The Hurricanes couldn’t force the Vikings into committing turnovers, which had been the Canes’ bread and butter during their unbeaten season, while the Hurricanes themselves struggled with ball security.

Top scorer Emma Geiwitz was also scoreless in the first half, in large part due to sitting with three fouls.

Houston was making its first-ever trip to the girls basketball state tournament.
