Houston uses huge second half to clinch first-ever State trip

Houston girls basketball made history Thursday night, beating Kingsland 63-49 for the Section 1A title and clinching their first trip to State in program history.

Houston fell behind 9-3 early but used a 10-0 run to climb back and eventually take the lead. The Hurricanes and Knights were tied up at halftime, but the second half belonged entirely to the Hurricanes who pulled away and did not look back.

Emma Geiwitz led the Hurricanes with 23 points, Sydney Torgerson added 19 and Becca Rostad recorded 14 points for the undefeated Hurricanes.

“It feels great,” Geiwitz said after the win. “Honestly to be the first team to play this kind of game feels awesome. It feels great to make history for our school. And I’m also looking to finish it. Our team–we’re strong, and I’ll bet you we’ll take it as far as we need to.”
