Houston high school holds annual Festival of Owls
International Owl Center opens
HOUSTON, Minn. (WKBT) — People wanting to learn about owls had the chance to do so during the annual Festival of Owls.
The event was held at Houston High School.
Attendees could see six different species of owls, hear from owl experts from five different countries, and even build their own owl nest.
The event was also a celebration for the opening of the International Owl Center.
Organizers of the festival say the idea of opening a center stemmed from the festival’s growing popularity.
“We had no idea that nobody else was doing festivals like this anywhere in North America. When we started having people fly in from all over the place we thought I guess we’ve got something here, but it was only a once a year event,” said the International Owl Center executive director Karla Bloem.
The center is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10a.m.-4p.m.
