HorseSense for Special Riders opens Summer Registration

Registration is open for the 2018 Summer Session of therapeutic horseback riding lessons at HorseSense for Special Riders, Inc. in Coon Valley.

For the first time, the nonprofit organization will offer private lessons to supplement its standard group lessons this summer.

Private lessons will offer riders more individualized attention from instructors, enabling them to further their knowledge and independence in the saddle and fine-tune their skills, according to Samantha Luhmann, Executive Director of the organization.

The 2018 Summer Session will run Monday through Friday, June 4 through August 30.

“Therapeutic horseback riding provides benefits in the areas of health, education, sport, recreation
and leisure through a one-of-a-kind partnership with a horse,” said Samantha Luhmann, executive
director of HorseSense for Special Riders. “This approach to therapy also contributes to the
cognitive, physical, emotional, social and mental wellbeing of individuals of all kinds. Anyone can
benefit from therapeutic horseback riding lessons; we encourage you to register and experience
them for yourself!”

Private lessons are 60 minutes long and will consist of riding, grooming and tacking a horse. The cost is $60 per lesson and are available from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Group lessons are also 60 minutes in length and emphasize social interaction and teamwork as horsemanship skills are taught. Lessons cost $40 per each and are available from 4-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
