Homegrown V-Hawks off to perfect start in conference play
Just a few years ago, Viterbo women’s basketball had a season in which the team won just two conference games.
But each season since, coach Lionel Jones has grown the program into a conference contender.
A conference title this season would be the program’s first-ever North Star title, and they’re off to a good start–undefeated in conference through five games. The V-Hawks have been getting it done with a core group of athletes who have ties to the Coulee Region, making every step taken as a program feel that much sweeter.
“I think people really enjoy hearing about local high schoolers making it to Viterbo, making a big impact here, and finally turning the university–putting it on the map,” said Sophie Leinfelder, a La Crosse Central grad and current V-Hawk guard.
The V-Hawks next host 24th-ranked Dakota State Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
