Holmen students learn from collaboration with UW-La Crosse

Students at an area elementary school had a chance to learn about how books can give new experiences Friday.

Viking Elementary students in Holmen heard from Uma Krishnaswami. The author from India spoke on her experiences living in a different culture.

Organizers say the event is a great way for students to get into reading and the worlds it can open up.

“The presentations are always an interesting mix of other parts of the world, their view of then spending a large part of their life in the United States and in this case even a lot of history,” said Rick Stewart, of UW-La Crosse’s School of Education.

The students also had several activity stations to help make reading fun.
