Holmen places fire chief on administrative leave as it pursues shared service plan with La Crosse
HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — The Holmen Area Fire Department Board has placed Chief William Manley on leave as it began pursuing a partnership with the La Crosse Fire Department, according to a statement released Friday by Village President Patrick Barlow.
The fire board hired McMahon Associates Inc. to evaluate the department and make recommendations on changes to better serve the three communities covered by the department.
“After McMahon had commenced its review, it was determined that preliminary adjustments were needed to ensure that the department could respond to emergency calls,” Barlow said in the statement.
The board authorized McMahon to work toward a “shared service plan” with La Crosse. “The Board is hopeful that an agreement will be able to be reached a partnership forged with LA Crosse for the betterment of both departments and their supporting communities,” said Barlow.
Manley has been placed on leave pending the discussions. During the interim, fire coverage continues to be provided by the Holmen department firefighters with assistance from McMahon and existing regional agreements.
