Holmen mom spreads kindness with baskets of home essentials
HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — Being an adult is challenging, and being a parent is even harder. A Holmen mom knows that well– and she is paying it forward with her “Adulting is stupid” baskets.
That decision came from her own experience.
A simple act of kindness can go a long way. Heather Silvers knows that well.
“A couple years ago, I was pregnant with my second son. I had just moved into this apartment I’m in now. I didn’t have a lot of anything, really,” Heather said.
When Heather needed kindness more than anything, her family stepped in.
“My brother and his now-fiancé asked what they could get me for Christmas,” Heather said. “They went way overboard and got me huge boxes of bulk toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, dishwasher detergent. And it really made a huge impact on me at that time.”
A huge impact.
“The financial stress was kind of lifted by him gifting that to me,” Heather said.
That impact is something Heather wanted to share– so she did.
The first time she did it, the response was overwhelming.
“I think there were 80 people reached who reached out. And my heart broke, because I was like ‘All these people need this’,” Heather said.
Paying it forward with baskets of essentials.
“I think only an adult could appreciate the simplicity of toilet paper and paper towels,” Heather said.
Toilet paper, paper towels, toothbrushes, laundry detergent. Those are just some of the items Heather is giving away– with the help of donations from members of the La Crosse area Everyone Needs a Helping Hand group on Facebook.
Each and every basket is packed with love.
“It makes me so happy seeing them filled up like this,” Heather said.
Today, she’s passing it on to more adults, who, like her, could benefit from a little help and a lot of kindness.
Right now, Heather can’t help everyone– but she wants to help more people. She is taking donations of any kind– from gift cards to items.
