Holmen Boys and Girls Club set to open in September with a new director

HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) – The Boys and Girls Club in Holmen is getting closer to their grand opening date. And someone brand new just joined their team.

“September first, the doors open for kids,” said Brett Gullicksrud.

Right on time for the new school year. And not only is the facility new, but so is the club’s director.

Brett Gullicksrud took over the position earlier this week.

“I reached out instantly and was interested in the position, and I kept an open dialogue for the last year,” said Gullicksrud.

Gullicksrud has worked for the Boys and Girls Club before, and that’s what motivated him to take the job.

“I know the impact it can have on a community, I’ve seen it first hand in the seven years I was in Milwaukee,” said Gullicksrud. “And the relationships you can build with youth and families.”

And the new facility will serve multiple people in the Holmen area.

“There’s three different partners in this facility itself. The Boys and Girls Club, the Holmen Area Community Center and the Holmen School District,” said Gullicksrud.

Gullicksrud said the facility, under normal circumstances, will have the ability to serve around 200 kids.

“It’s not just for youth, it’s for families and for everybody,” said Gullicksrud.

And with a little less than a month left before opening.

“We’re posting positions, and interviewing, trying to get a staff ready,” said Gullicksrud.

He said the club is trying to find ways to assist when it comes to virtual learning too.

“We’ll do whatever we can to help support the community,” said Gullicksrud.

The Boys and Girls Club is still looking to raise $150,000 for the new facility.  Those wishing to donate can reach out directly to Gullicksrud, or you can donate on the Holmen Boys and Girls Club website.
