Holiday event gives military families special bonding time

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) – USO Wisconsin hosted a special event for military families Monday evening.

The organization invited military families to spend time together walking through Sparta Rotary Lights Display in Evans-Bosshard Park.

They also got to warm up with some hot cocoa and holiday cookies.

Plus, kids were able to write letters to Santa and can expect to receive a letter back thanks to the help of USO volunteers.

For people in the military, every minute they get to spend with family is precious.

“For us to be able to build an event for military families is really essential to help them create strong bonds. Without those memories, without those events, without things like that happening, they don’t necessarily have as great of a tie to the community, to home, to the country, to family,” said Elizabeth Hazlett, USO WI Operations & Volunteer Manager, Fort McCoy.

Some military kids also received a special gift through the Operation Holiday Gift program.
