Hillsboro volleyball set for early morning State clash with Catholic Central

Hillsboro volleyball is set for its first trip to State since 2012. The three seed Tigers take on Catholic Central from Burlington in the Division 4 semifinals.

Tigers head coach Mark Sullivan said the Hilltoppers draw from a talented area that produces consistent D1 level talent.

Hillsboro said getting back to Green Bay has been a surreal experience, but they’re also focused on the tough task ahead of them.

“It really still hasn’t sunk in for me yet,” senior Molly Crandall said. “I don’t think it’s going to sink in until I’m standing on that court Friday. Even after we won sectionals, and I was holding the plaque, it still didn’t feel real to me.”

“I hear they have 6-foot girls, so that’ll probably be the biggest challenge–going around their big blocks and big hitters,” senior Abigal Nemec said.

“We are not going to be able to go in there and dominate right off the bat. We’re going to have to absorb something and get some confident plays to go our way, so we know we can be in the fight,” head coach Mark Sullivan said. “I know they can do it. After watching them, Catholic Central’s not an unbeatable team by any means, but we’re going to have to play a high level match, and they know it.”

Hillsboro has first serve set for 9 a.m. Friday at the Resch Center.
