High school musicians participate in virtual music festival
High School music students have been preparing to perform vocal or instrumental solos and ensembles all year.
With the pandemic making things difficult to do this in person, the Wisconsin School Music Association has switched everything to a virtual experience.
Instead of performing in front of judges live, students record and submit their performance through a special video submission app.
Active Wisconsin music educators evaluate the videos and provided feedback to each submission
Wisconsin School Music Association Executive Director Laurie Fellenz said, “We as a staff knew that no matter what happened we had to find a way to still provide support to our teachers and our students.”
Not only were all Wisconsin schools allowed to participate, but because of the ease of the virtual access students from surrounding states also participated.
With over 16,000 students participating, it makes this festival the largest of its kind in the United States.
