High School athletes hit the slopes at Mt. La Crosse
Event features 450 racers, estimated 1,500 spectators daily
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The best high school skiers and snowboarders are hitting the slopes in La Crosse.
The Wisconsin High School Ski and Snowboard Championships are at Mount La Crosse this weekend.
The event features about 450 racers from schools throughout the state. There will also be an estimated 1,500 spectators taking in the event every day.
“For our community this is awesome for us to have and we’re so happy to have them come in,” said La Crosse Central Logan Head Coach Bill Patza.
“One of the challenges too is being able to host an event of this caliber and still be available to our regular customer. You know, not everybody is here to race this weekend. So we try to make sure we’re sensitive to those people too and there’s plenty of terrain out there for everybody,” said Mount La Crosse General Manager Darcie Breidel.
Mount La Crosse has been hosting this event for more than 20 years.
Races start on Saturday at 11 a.m. and go through Monday afternoon.
