Mayo Clinic's annual flu clinics are now open

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - La Crosse's hospitals want you to prepare for the coming flu season.

Mayo Clinic Health System's annual flu clinics are now open. Health care providers say it's important to get the vaccination early as it can take up to 2 weeks for it to take effect.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends anyone 6 months or older get the shot.

"Everyone is at risk for the flu. There are populations that are most at risk, the very young and the very old and some people with chronic medical conditions, but we all can help protect ourselves and our community by getting the flu shot,” said Mayo Clinic Health System Chair for Clinical Quality Caroline Wilker.
