Health Science Academy students get hands-on at Mayo Clinic Health System

Our future doctors and health workers are getting some first-hand experience in a hospital setting.

Students from the Health Science Academy visited Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse Tuesday.

The academy is made up of students from area high schools who are thinking about going into a career in the healthcare industry.

They got to visit an operating room and learned how to intubate a patient during their visit Tuesday.

Students say the activities are a big help in figuring out their future career path.

“It’s very important because we get to experience what the actual careers are like. If we don’t enjoy it, we know for sure, like, I’ll go into this career instead of this one,” said student Cheyenne Banasik.

Representatives from Mayo Clinic Health System say the partnership is a win-win for everyone involved because students from the Health Science Academy may end up being future employees.
