Health experts at Mayo Health say children need to be protected from Delta variant
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Medical experts at Mayo Clinic Health System say that they are seeing an increased number of COVID-19 cases amongst people under the age of 18.
Doctors say that the Delta variant is much more transmissible than other variants which are leading to more cases in children.
Children under the age of 12 are not yet eligible to be vaccinated, and doctors say the best thing people can do to protect themselves is to get vaccinated.
“Anyone over 12 years of age should be getting their vaccine, both to protect themselves, but also to protect people who are not yet eligible, such as children under 12 years of age,” said Mayo Clinic Infectious Disease expert, Nipunie Rajapakse.
Mayo Health doctors say that COVID-19 cases in people who are vaccinated are rare and even though they’re getting a lot of attention it’s not driving the current surge in cases.
