Many industries are trying to plan for a worker shortage that continues to grow.
The health care industry is one place that a shortage impacts all of us.
Physician and Surgeon Shortage
103,000 – New Jobs
11,000 – Shortage of Skilled Professionals
In just five years, according to industry consultant Mercer… there will be new openings for 103-thousand physicians and surgeons, with a shortage of 11-thousand skilled professionals.
Medical and Clinical Lab Technicians Shortage
110,000 -New Jobs
98,000 – Shortage of Trained Professionals
And new openings for 110- thousand lab technicians, with a shortage of 98-thousand trained workers.
That’s why Mayo Clinic Health System is hosting a Health Care Exploration Series to allow high school and college students to explore careers in the health care industry.
According to Mayo Clinic Community Engagement Coordinator Heidi Odegaard, “We like to give them a hands on experience where they can explore and ask the professionals lots of questions and ghet those simulation experiences that can give them a good feel for what it would be like to be a professional in that field. ”
The Health Care Exploration Series at Mayo Clinic Health System is set for Tuesday February 11th and Thursday April 9th from 5-7 pm.
They’ll take place at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
