Hands-on skills workshops lets students explore career opportunities
Students from 8th to 12th grade took part
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Some students from La Crosse are discovering possible careers thanks to a partnership with some area trade workers.
A hands-on learning experience was hosted today by the La Crosse Promise Future Centers for middle and high school students.
The workshop included different stations where students will learn about skills used in trades like carpentry, roofing and plumbing.
Members of skilled trade organizations from the area helped run the event.
La Crosse Promise leaders say the kids light up when they get to learn by doing.
“You know to see them kind of light up like that and get their hands in that, even though they’re timid at first, once they get more comfortable, it’s really fun to see them get into it,” said Brian Liesinger, La Crosse Promise executive director.
Many of the skilled trades that participated today will take part in a Future Center Fair next month.
