Gundersen renames regional ambulance service, adds locations

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Gundersen Tri-State Regional Ambulance Service has changed names and will add locations starting this year.

The service is now Gundersen Health System Ambulance and will add locations in Richland Center, Tomah and Winona to its current locations in West Union, Iowa, and Prairie du Chien, Wis.

“The name change to Gundersen Health System Ambulance connects the high-quality care and services we provide and our great patient outcomes more directly to Gundersen Health System,” said Clinical Operations Director Tom Tornstrom in a press release. “At the same time, adding the new patient transport locations will reduce wait times for patients at Gundersen Critical Access Hospitals and improve efficiency for staff.”

Gundersen Health System Ambulance won’t be answering 911 calls. Richland Center, Tomah and Winona already have reliable ambulance services. The regional offices will have a critical care ambulance, which is staffed 24/7 and used for patient transfers.

Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance in La Crosse will keep its name and continue providing emergency and interfacility ambulance services here.

The new Richland Center location is expected to open mid-January, while the Tomah location is scheduled to open late January or early February. The Winona location will open later in 2022.
