Gundersen Health System sets new birth record

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Gundersen Health System says it has set a birth record.

More babies were born at its hospitals this year than any other year.

Gundersen welcomed 1,729 infants so far in 2021, up 33 from 2020.

Leaders expect there will be more births before the year ends.

“I like to think that it has everything to do with maybe our parents feeling confident in receiving care in maybe a challenging time,” certified nurse midwife Ashley Woychik said. “And realizing that it’s time to keep moving forward.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the national birthrate is expected to fall to a record low this year.
